Xcel Energy Volunteer Project

Xcel Energy Volunteers make paper violins for kindergarten students
Thanks to volunteers from Xcel Energy, 36 El Sistema Colorado kindergarten students will have paper violins. A dozen volunteers from the Gas Capacity, Planning & Distribution Engineering Group took place in a volunteer activity at their offices to support El Sistema Colorado. The volunteers cut out cardboard violin pieces and then assembled the paper violins to be used by kindergarten students in our program.

Almost 200 kindergarten students start out their El Sistema Colorado experience with paper violins, allowing them to become familiar with the basics of handling and playing the instrument before they graduate to real violins. El Sistema families need help creating these paper violins – and that is where volunteers come in, helping to create the cardboard violins so that they are ready for the final stage where paper mache is applied.

Are you looking for a volunteer project? Please contact Executive Director Jan Brennan at jbrennan@elsistemacolorado.org to make arrangements for El Sistema Colorado to come to your work site with our paper violin volunteer project. The project can be customized for the number of volunteers and time available. Cutting out and assembling the cardboard violins is a lot of fun and a big help to El Sistema Colorado and our youngest musicians.
