Volunteers from several Xcel Energy groups are pitching in to make practice cardboard violins for El Sistema Colorado’s kindergarten students. A huge thanks to members of several finance teams who came together today to make violins at Garden Place Elementary.
The cardboard violins will get a paper mache finish in September and serve as a learning tool for the kindergarten students to begin their exploration of the violin.
To complete the practice violins, the Xcel volunteers traced, cut out and assembled the cardboard, before writing messages of encouragement to the future young musicians. This fall, over 175 kindergarten students at Garden Place and Swansea Elementary Schools will begin their music journey with these practice violins, learning parts of the violin, how to hold the violin and bow, and basic bowing technique. In November, after two months of practice, the kindergarteners will perform at a Celebration Concert where they will graduate to real violins.
