A Crescendo of Concerts
El Sistema Colorado students were very busy in the last weeks of the school year, providing numerous free concerts for the community. Among the concerts was a special performance at The Denver Foundation Annual Celebration, a year-end concert by after-school 1st – 8th grade students from Bruce Randolph Middle School and Garden Place Elementary, a performance at the Garden Place School Carnival, a student guest performance at the final concert of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, a year-end concert by kindergarten students from Swansea and Garden Place Elementary Schools, a Donor Appreciation Concert, and two solo performances by Bruce Randolph students at the Denver Public Schools all-district principal’s meeting. Whew!
Student community performances are an important aspect of the El Sistema Colorado program. A core goal of El Sistema is to instill the value of social responsibility and foster community engagement. For our young musicians, the opportunity to give back to the community is gratifying and also builds their confidence and self-esteem. At the same time, the community benefits, as the concerts contribute to the cultural vitality of the neighborhood and support charitable organizations and activities.
