Red Rocks Ready!

El Sistema Colorado’s young musicians have been practicing and preparing for their Red Rocks debut as musical guests of DeVotchKa and the Colorado Symphony on Thursday, July 17th. On Wednesday, students participated in a rehearsal at Boettcher Concert Hall, their first chance to meet the Symphony and DeVotchKa musicians.

This one-night-only event presents a breath-taking tapestry of sights and sounds under the stars at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. DeVotchKa’s lush orchestrations will combine with the rich symphonic sounds of Colorado Symphony’s world-class musicians in an evening of awe-inspiring music and illuminating theatrical surprises. The evening will begin with a set from Gregory Alan Isakov & Elephant Revival. Over 50 El Sistema Colorado students from Garden Place Elementary, Swansea Elementary and Bruce Randolph Middle & High School will join DeVotchKa on stage for a short performance.

DeVotchKa gained international notoriety when they were picked to score Little Miss Sunshine, a 2006 film that would go on to garner four Academy Award nominations. DeVotchKa, along with composer Mychael Danna, composed and performed the majority of the music for the film’s soundtrack and were nominated for a 2006 Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack. DeVotchKa is a four-piece multi-instrumental and vocal ensemble. Based in Denver, Colorado, the quartet is made up of Nick Urata, who sings and plays theremin, guitar, bouzouki, piano, and trumpet; Tom Hagerman, who plays violin, accordion, and piano; Jeanie Schroder, who sings and plays sousaphone, double bass, and flute; and Shawn King, who plays percussion and trumpet.
El Sistema Colorado's young musicians are excited to perform at Red Rocks.

DeVotchKa is a strong supporter of music education for children and share El Sistema’s belief that all children should have an opportunity to experience music, even when their families can’t afford to purchase instruments and private lessons. DeVotchKa selected El Sistema Colorado students to appear as their guests to promote opportunities for youth to learn music instruments and develop their musical talents. All El Sistema Colorado programs are free, removing barriers for low-income youth to participate.

Some tickets are still available for this performance, but it will sell out. Link here for Tickets.
