Kindergarten Violin Concert

Congratulations to El Sistema Colorado’s youngest musicians, kindergarten students from Garden Place and Swansea Elementary Schools, who performed in a violin concert last night.

The concert marks the end of the school year for 175 kindergarteners who received violin instruction every day through El Sistema Colorado’s free in-school program. They began the year on paper mache violins, graduated to real violins in a November 2013 ceremony and now have performed in their first year-end violin concert.

The students demonstrated a D scale, and played Mary Had a Little Lamb and Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The talented faculty also performed for the packed crowd.

Recently, third-grade participants in the El Sistema Colorado program at Garden Place Academy received violins, thanks to a generous donation from Colorado Public Radio. Below are some pictures documenting the first moments after the kids received their instruments. The pictures say it all.

Garden Place Creates Paper Violin Orchestra

Last week, over 150 family members of Garden Place Academy helped 72 kindergartens each create a papier-mâché violin!  The paper violin orchestra helps young students learn to hold and bow the instrument before graduating to real violins at the end of February.
