Denver, CO; October 21, 2012 – El Sistema Colorado, a groundbreaking music education nonprofit, has named Jan Brennan as its first Executive Director. Ms. Brennan will be responsible for the management and administration of El Sistema Colorado, ensuring effective programs and leading the growth of the organization across metro Denver and the state.
“Ms. Brennan has the skills and passion to see El Sistema Colorado succeed for our kids. She will be a tremendous asset in taking our organization to the next level of excellence and expanding the number of Colorado students who experience the benefits and success created through the El Sistema music education program,” noted Monika Vischer, Board President.
The mission of El Sistema Colorado is to empower children by providing an intensive music program that teaches the importance of teamwork, promotes self-confidence and instills the value of social responsibility. Founded over thirty-five years ago in Venezuela, El Sistema programs throughout the world demonstrate the power of ensemble music to dramatically change the life trajectory of students, while transforming the communities around them. El Sistema Colorado was established in 2012 with a pilot program that currently serves 200 children at Garden Place Elementary in the Globeville neighborhood.
Before joining El Sistema Colorado, Ms. Brennan served in leadership positions at the Denver Office of Cultural Affairs over the last six years. Prior to her work at the City of Denver, Ms. Brennan was the Membership and Communications Director for Colorado Business Committee for the Arts and Director of the Gill Foundation’s Gay & Lesbian Fund for Colorado.
El Sistema Colorado takes an important step towards successful growth and sustainability with the hiring of their first executive director and with Ms. Brennan’s experience in cultural management, arts education, strategic planning, community partnerships, and fundraising. The public is invited to meet Ms. Brennan, learn more about the El Sistema Colorado program and experience a live performance by Garden Place students at a fundraising reception on Thursday, November 15, 2012. The event is free, but reservations are required. For additional information on the November 15th event or El Sistema Colorado, contact:
They call themselves a “classical garage band.” Time for Three (aka “Tf3” – Nick Kendall & Zach DePue, violins; Ranaan Meyer, bass) met as students at the Curtis Institute of Music and have since taken their gender-bending style to the world’s stages. Tf3 believes deeply in El Sistema and music’s power to change lives. They worked with El Sistema Colorado’s students Wednesday, July 18, just after their live broadcast performance at Colorado Public Radio.
